Thursday 22 January 2009 - Unscheduled Hospital Visit

Drew was home alone today, as his brothers were at vacation care. This afternoon he went to Tristan's Birthday BBQ. When I came home from shopping Drew had a massive bruise on his leg and then told me he had black spots in his No. 2s. This can be a sign of bleeding so after ringing the hospital, they told us to come in. We arrived at 11.30pm, they accessed Drew's port and took some blood, which showed his platelets were low and he need a platelet transfusion. As Drew went to bed at 1.00am, the platelets weren't due to arrive till 2.30am. They were hung in the early hours whilst he was asleep and I don't think he knew anything about it.
